Korean sentence practice

There are mainly three ways to connect nouns in Korean.

A Few Things to Note:

1. When listing things, you can add (이)랑 and 하고 to the last noun in the list, but you cannot add 와/과.

I ate an apple and bread.
➢ 사과랑 빵을 먹었어요. ( O )
➢ 사과하고 빵을 먹었어요. ( O )
➢ 사과와 빵을 먹었어요. ( O )

I buy a red ball and a yellow ball.
➢ 빨간 공이랑 노란 공이랑 사요. ( O )
➢ 빨간 공하고 노란 공하고 사요. ( O )
➢ 빨간 공과 노란 공과 사요. ( X )

2. While 와/과, (이)랑, and 하고 can all be used to list things, you cannot mix them within the same sentence.

I like soccer, baseball, volleyball, and badminton.
➢ 나는 축구와 야구와 배구와 배드민턴을 좋아해요. ( O )
➢ 나는 축구하고 야구하고 배구하고 배드민턴을 좋아해요. ( O )
➢ 나는 축구랑 야구랑 배구랑 배드민턴을 좋아해요. ( O )
➢ 나는 축구와 야구하고 배구랑 배드민턴을 좋아해요. ( X )

3. A specific particle indicates the target with which the subject acts, corresponding to ‘(together) with’ in English. To express such a relationship, ‘와 (함께)’ is used.”

  • I plan to go on a trip to Jeju Island with my friend.           
    친구 함께 제주도로 여행 가려고해요.

4. The conjunction “and” is expressed as “그리고” in Korean. It is used to connect sentences or clauses.

  • I am a mother. And I am a teacher.
    나는 엄마예요. 그리고 나는 선생이예요.

Example Sentences:
A dog and a cat are sleeping.
개와 고양이가 자고 있어요.

Rice cake and yakgwa are Korean traditional foods.
떡과 약과는 전통 음식이예요.

Mom and I go to the market.
엄마랑 나는 시장에 가요.

My brother and I like baseball.
남동생이랑 저는 야구를 좋아해요.

I have juice and cake for dessert.
후식으로 주스랑 케이크를 먹어요.

I used to go to the park with my mom.
엄마랑 공원에 가곤 했어요.

Only you and I are tall in our class.
우리 반에서 너하고 나만 키가 커.

Do you want to play with us?
우리하고 같이 놀래요?

She often goes on trips together with her friends.
그녀는 자주 그녀의 친구들과 함께 여행을 가요.

The time spending with you is fun.
너와 함께 보내는 시간은 즐거워.
